What the Mind Believes

There is a saying among hypnotists and psychologists:
What the mind believes, tends to be perceived. Wow, what a statement.

What the mind believes, tends to be perceived. What does this mean?
It means that people only tend to see evidence that backs up what they ALREADY believe. That is the passive understanding of this statement. There also is an aggressive and also progressive way to understand it as well, but I will cover those later.

Whenever there is two sides of an argument, like blondes vs brunettes, evolution vs creation, husband vs wife, free energy vs thermodynamics, up vs down, Bears vs Packers… EACH person finds valid points that reinforces their belief, and is completely oblivious to the other side, no matter how convincing.

As a scientist tests and experiments possibilities of a certain discovery, he is merely working towards what he has already established firmly in his mind. If the belief is not strong enough, he will abandon his pursuit and move to the next. If his determination is strong, however, he will start to notice little validations to his points. Then he convinces another scientist to believe the same thing, and they find more validation and so on.

The same thing happens with religion too. I don’t want to seem biased in this regards as almost everyone is guilty. One person has a belief about ghosts or spirits, he then starts to see shadows and things at the corner of his eyes at first. Then those thoughts become reinforced and he starts to see things move. A “miracle” happens and further compounds his beliefs. He convinces others about what has happened, and now they are all compounding the thoughts into reality. And of course, now we have a new religion established.

One step further. Many of you have heard about “The Law of Attraction” right? Well, this is where belief and perception becomes aggressive. If you are constantly thinking “pain” or “failure” or “tired” or “fat”, you will start to realize all the tiny aches and pains, fatigues areas in the body, tiny failures, and every ounce of weight gained. Then as these things happen, they reinforce what you are already thinking, and the effects compound further and further.

We are attracting and creating all good and all bad things in our lives. Some of them have been in process for years, meaning thoughts being gradually established and built up.

How then, does this relate to my previous post about “Where to Begin“? Well, you cannot expect to do anything unless you believe it first. You may have to fake it until you make it initially, eventually you will become convinced of what it is you need. If you are tired or fatigued, simply start thinking, “awake, awake, awake” or “energy, energy, energy”. This is the progressive way to look at the original statement: What the mind believes, tends to be perceived.

If this is a ping pong table, I suggested you change your water first. On this side of the table, I am suggesting that you mentally reinforce the benefits of the water change. The only way you will stick with your first step is to believe it, and convince yourself to do it.

Believe, Perceive, Repeat
Believe, Perceive, Repeat

Now, let us ping pong back to the physical… Water, Water, Everywhere
